Song of the Day: Ribs

Today’s song is Ribs by Neil Cicierega.

Happy 4th of July.
It’s the summer, people barbecue, and many tend to eat ribs.
I may be a vegetarian, but this sweet track deserves all the love and praise it can get.

You can’t smell your own knees… Chili’s Baby Back Ribs.

I love internet humor. The fact that Neil has become a celebrated musician only makes it more magical.

This song is a mashup of the “Baby Back Ribs” song (from the Chili’s advertisements) and Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People”. The backing instrumental is “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears.

It’s a clear reference to the late-90s rumor that Marilyn Manson supposedly had some of his RIBS removed to perform autofellatio. Yeah. The rumor, while untrue, was widespread and stuck. Poor guy.
