Song of the Day: I Know I’m Not the Only One

Today’s song is I Know I’m Not the Only One by Tegan and Sarah.

More rock-infused synth-pop from an excellent Canadian group (twin sisters).
I’ve shared music by them before (and you’ll recognize them as the ones who sang ‘Everything is Awesome’ for the Lego Movie).

This song has a heartbreaking notion written into the lyrics.
It focuses on the aspects of growth and how some relationships don’t sustain themselves over that long transition.

You’ll be good to me, but you’re not my dream.
You’ll lose me to places, places I have never been.

I can’t get over the drums on this. Easily lost in the background, but pay attention to it.

It has a pleasant hook and really relies heavily on the accompaniment.
The swelling guitar that jabs for emphasis with the lyrics works well.

This track also knows when to shift focus back into the lyrics.
Saves the song from delving into a muddled mess at times.
I really like this one’s sound.
