Song of the Day: Cruel Summer

Today’s song is Cruel Summer by Bananarama.

New-wave dance pop.
This song didn’t become a huge hit until it was featured in The Karate Kid.
Whoever made that decision gave more attention to a gorgeous song.

This song rocks for the instrumentation alone.

It’s too close for comfort, this heat has got right out of hand.

That melodic hook, when paired to the base line, is damn magical. Such a beautiful blend of layers.

The song speaks of heat-based lethargy, but the sound promotes an energetic melody.
It isn’t sharp though. It melts together a bit (which I suppose meets the theme).
