Song of the Day: Here Comes The Hotstepper

Today’s song is Here Comes The Hotstepper by Ini Kamoze.

Reggae fusion. I’m not a big fan of the genre, but this hits an interesting mood.
It has so many 90’s elements that I enjoy.
The song also uses the “na na na na na…” chorus from the Wilson Pickett’s “Land of a Thousand Dances“.

Hotstepper means ‘on the run from the law’.
Actually explains what the song is about and puts the lyrics into context.

Start like a jackrabbit, finish in front of it.

The beat on this track is a definite groove. Simple, but has legs. That base adds a real punch to it.

The funk elements make this dance song stand out.
You’ll either love or hate the record-scratch, but I think it dates it well.
