Song of the Day: If We Were Vampires

Today’s song is If We Were Vampires by Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit.

Alt-country, for when you want some Americana.

This won the Grammy for Best American Roots Song.
Well deserved in my opinion.

Maybe time running out is a gift. I’ll work hard ’til the end of my shift
And give you every second I can find. And hope it isn’t me who’s left behind

Everything about this track is heartbreaking, from the haunting lyrics or the somber tone.

It’s violin just yanks you into the mood.
The soft guitar melody is a wonderful hook.
The addition of the ‘soft wailing’ in the background really stands out.

Those lyrics are masterful. Sets the tone beautifully.
Once it turns into a duet the song becomes exceptional.
