Song of the Day: Wake Me Up When September Ends

Today’s song is Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day.
Alt-Rock (with some nostalgia thrown in for good measure).

Had to do it.
Only have one chance a year to make this stupid joke.
It results in me sharing an excellent rock song, so not the worst result.

Summer has come and passed.
The innocent can never last.

The pacing of this one is beautiful. Just enough angst/energy to pull the meaning.

You really get a pull from the lyrics, both from the slow intro and the harsh tone.
A melancholic way of remembering the impact of youth.
The way it transitions from seven years to twenty in a short, circular repeat of the lyrics.

American Idiot was an excellent album (that got a Broadway adaption).
This is just a singular element from a style that was over fifteen-years in the making (the band formed in the late 80’s).
