Song of the Day: Forever Tonight

Today’s song is Forever Tonight by Kelechi.

Pop.
Wanted something to break up all the indie stuff.

This track is straight forward. Repetitive, simple structure, a ton of layered vocals.
Contemporary. This is the current state of pop music, more or less.

Make this feeling last forever now. Forever Tonight .

I don’t dislike this song. I’m just not fond of it. This is an examination, not adoration.

Recently I’ve wondered why the style of pop music always structures itself across the same ‘vein’.
You’ll notice that songs occasionally reference wanting ‘time to last longer’ or making ‘the most of the night’.
Honestly, I feel like I’m becoming jaded by that type of message a bit. Can’t we just exist?

It’s generic and has been a staple forever.
You have classic interpretations. Yesterday came out in ’65. Cindi Lauper sang Time After Time in ’83.
Then you have modern nonsense like Die Young, Give Me Everything, Feel This Moment, etc.
Maybe I’m just irritated by Pitbull. No idea. But I know that the mentality seems more selfish in pop today.
