Song of the Day: Conga

Today’s song is Conga by Gloria Estefan.

Latin/Dance Pop
Few songs have such a strong dance theme. I mean, the pace and tone set is perfect.
The rapid melodic hook (and the lyrics) make it a ton of fun.

Come on, shake your body, baby, do the conga.
I know you can’t control yourself any longer.

Most dance tracks loose steam, and this one can hit that at points, but it’s pretty infectious.

Yeah, it can a bit silly at times (this isn’t the type of track to throw into a melancholy mix).
Still, I enjoy that the focus centers on the instrumentation.
That piano solo, combined with the brass and the frantic drumming/guitar, just hits beautifully.
